My name is Brent Pollard. After 19 years of living with Crohn’s disease, I developed colon cancer. I had to have a colectomy in order to save and improve the quality of my life. Living with an ileostomy is quite an adjustment, but there are worst things (e.g., death). I finished chemotherapy in October of 2010. Chemotherapy was necessary as the colon cancer was at stage three when the doctors performed my colectomy in April 2010.
I am also a minister. I work with the Bladen church of Christ, a small congregation in southeastern North Carolina. I have been preaching for 22 years, having preached my first sermon at the age of 14 for the Allenhurst church of Christ in Allenhurst, Georgia. Thirteen of those 22 years are in full time located work, after I began preaching as my vocation. I’ve only been unemployed as a minister about one year total and this was due primarily to illness.
I received my BA in Biblical Studies in 1997 from Faulkner University.
